Officials of the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl and Bowl Games of America announced today that over 2500 representatives from high school marching bands, dance and cheer groups from across the country have signed up to participate in the January 1, 2009 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl. This marks the 22nd year of a partnership between Bowl Games of America and the Gator Bowl Association and the first year hosting the 1st Annual Gator Bowl Cheer and Dance National Championship.

Clemson has been extended an invitation to the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, FL. The contest will be played on January 1 at 1:00 PM and will be nationally televised by CBS. Clemson’s opponent will be named at a later date. Clemson has a 7-5 record entering the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl and has won four of its last five games, including a 27-21 win over Boston College in Boston, and a 31-14 win over South
Carolina in the regular season finale. The Tigers finished strong under Head Coach Dabo Swinney, who became interim head coach on October 13 after Tommy Bowden resigned. He was named head coach on December 1.

Antone Smith ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns Saturday as Florida State defeated previously unbeaten Colorado 39-21 in Bobby Bowden's 500th game as a college head coach. Bowden, in his 43rd season as a head coach and 33rd at Florida State, notched his 376th career victory to momentarily catch Penn State's Joe Paterno, whose team was scheduled to play Illinois later Saturday.
