KONICA MINOLTA GATOR BOWL BAND COMPETITION WINNERSJACKSONVILLE, FL Bowl Games of America held the annual Konica Minolta Gator Bowl Marching Band Competition the night of Sunday, December 30th at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. 11 high school bands and over 1000 students from all over the country participated in this event. The overall champion and winner of the coveted Gator Bowl pre-game spot went to Unionville High School from Kennett Square Pennsylvania, under the direction of Scott Litzenberg. Even though the Indians Marching Band competed in the smallest size classification, they were still able to capture the top spot with an imaginative show titled “Masque.” In the AA class, Florida’s own Seminole Ridge High School from Loxahatchee, under the direction of Tim Skinner, took home the first place trophy. The Marching Hawks performed selections from the musical Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Hazelwood West High School from Hazelwood, Missouri and under the direction of Aaron Jackson was the champion in class AAA. Unionville also won every caption award in categories including: musical, marching and maneuvering, general effect, auxiliary, percussion, and drum major. Taking second place in class A was Ironwood Ridge, all the way from Arizona and third place belonged to Helias High School located in Missouri. The class AA second place finish belonged to Woodland Hills High School located in Pittsburg, PA and third place went to Creekview High School in Georgia. James Huber Blake High School was the second place finisher in the AAA class. Other bands that competed included Liberty Christian Academy from Virginia, Meyersdale High School from Pennsylvania, and Crivitz High School all the way from Wisconsin. Each band will join together for a grand mass-band performance during halftime of the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day after spending hours leading up to the game rehearsing. |
