Virginia to play Texas Tech in the January 1, 2008 Konica Minolta Gator BowlJACKSONVILLE, FL – Kelly Madden, Chairman of the Gator Bowl Association and North Florida Region President of Wachovia Bank, formally extended an invitation today to the University of Virginia and Texas Tech to play in the January 1, 2008 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl. The Cavaliers, the Atlantic Coast Conference representative, finished their regular season with an overall record of 9–3. They will be making their 2nd appearance in the Gator Bowl Classic their last being in 1991 against Oklahoma. The Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Big 12 representative, finished their regular season with an overall record of 8–4 and will be making their 4th appearance in the Gator Bowl Classic. They last time they appeared in the Gator Bowl game was in 1973 against Tennessee. The January 1, 2008 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl will be the first time the University of Virginia and Texas Tech have played. "Virginia and Texas Tech are truly among the greatest of football traditions in the nation. The Cavaliers and Red Raiders have had outstanding seasons and we are looking forward to a truly exciting Bowl match up in Jacksonville," said Chairman Kelly Madden.
