TEXAS TECH RALLIES TO BEAT VIRGINIA IN THE 2008 KONICA MINOLTA GATOR BOWL 

JACKSONVILLE, FL The Texas Tech Red Raiders were crowned the 2008 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl Champions on Tuesday at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium after a come from behind victory over the Virginia Cavaliers 31 – 28.  The game also produced three Gator Bowl records:  the most safety’s in one game, the most pass attempts and the longest run in Gator Bowl history.

This was the first meeting between the Cavaliers and the Red Raiders.  Virginia entered the game with a 9-3, 6-2 record and Texas Tech had an 8-4, 4-4 record.  Virginia last appeared in the Gator Bowl Classic in 1991 against Oklahoma.  This marked the 4th appearance of Texas Tech in the Gator Bowl Classic where they last appeared in 1973 with a win over Tennessee.

The Most Valuable Players of the game were Graham Harrell, QB for Texas Tech and Chris Long, DE for Virginia.
