What is the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl?

The Konica Minolta Gator Bowl is the annual NCAA Division I-A post-season college football Bowl game hosted by the Gator Bowl Association, Inc. The Association is registered with a 501(c)(3) tax status, which makes them fully non-profit and charitable as it relates to income tax deductions, etc.

In addition, the Association hosts approximately thirty (30) year-round events, which attract over one hundred thousand participants, spectators, volunteers, sponsors and supporters. This also generates more than $50 million for the First Coast's economy.

Where does my money go?

All revenues derived from ticket sales, sponsorships, etc. are utilized to fund the non-profit Gator Bowl Association's 30 events and make the contractual team payouts as determined in the Conference contracts. The Konica Minolta Gator Bowl has contributed more than $60 million to universities throughout the nation. These monies not only benefit the athletic departments of participating Gator Bowl universities, but also enhance students' educational opportunities in many academic areas with these schools. Additionally, despite being a charitable organization itself, the Bowl has long been an annual contributor to numerous local charities. The four largest local charities currently benefiting from the Gator Bowl are Take Stock in Children, Jacksonville Children's Commission, First Coast Area Schools and the Greater Jacksonville Pop Warner.

How does my financial participation make a difference?

Without a successful football game, the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl could not fund and operate its 30 events, which have greater impact than any one operation in Jacksonville. Simply, the gross receipts from the football game alone do not generate enough income to draw the nation's top teams. Sponsorship and supporter income, and ticket sales for the many other events help provide the additional income needed for the Gator Bowl Football Classic to compete in the College Football Bowl System. Nothing creates more exposure for our city than a top-ranked college football match-up.

We encourage all sponsoring organizations to become actively involved in the sponsored events to help insure quality control and to ensure their own needs are being met. Our bowl's greatest resource is our volunteers, and many of our most dedicated volunteers have come from sponsoring organizations.

Why should my company get involved?

There are several reasons. Basically, the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl offers something for everyone. Some like to become involved because it gives employees a healthy outlet to contribute to community service. Additionally, within many sponsorship packages, tickets to special events are provided which are perfect for employees and client entertainment. There are also ample advertising, merchandising and sampling opportunities within the numerous bowl sponsorships creating tremendous promotional vehicles for corporations. And finally, there is something special about being associated with a winner. The Konica Minolta Gator Bowl has certainly been and will continue to be that, thanks to the thousands of Jacksonville citizens who have stepped forward to lead the effort.
